Qualified coaches within the club organise a series of courses in line with the British Canoe Union coaching scheme.
Children taking part on courses must be over 8 years of age.
All course times are 6:30 to 8:00 - boats, paddles, buoyancy aids & helmets (where required) are provided as part of the course, except the playboats for freestyle.

3 STAR KAYAK TRAINING & ASSESSMENT WEEKEND
COST £30 for the course + BCU fee for those who pass, £10 BCU members & £20 non-BCU members

WHO The club ran a 3 star module during the Summer focussing on the flat water skills required for the 3 star white water award, so the weekend training is exclusively on the moving water skills.

WHO Anyone! this is a very useful award to have in general. In addition it satisfies the BCU requirements for L1 to L3 coaches.

WHO beginners to kayak, canoe or sit-on. This will take you through the essential skills to use a kayak or canoe.
LEVEL 1, COACHING & ASSESSMENT
COST £390 for the 4 days
DATE 18 & 19 April, 16 & 17 May. NB you need to attend both weekends

WHO holders of the new UKCC 2 star AND a safety course.
Those with the old 2 star kayak can take advantage of the 1 day open canoe courses to top up their skills.
The safety courses are either the old Canoe Safety Test or the new Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) which the club will be running before April 2009.
Please note, whilst the BCU does not require a L1 to have a first aid certificate, if you wish to be registered so you can assess paddlepower, you do then need to have a first aid award of 4 hours. This probably applies mostly to those wishing to work commercially.
1 DAY OPEN CANOE SESSIONS LEADING TO NEW 2 STAR
COST £15 (club members only!) + BCU fee if you pass £5
DATE Sun 7 Dec 2008, Sat 10 Jan 2009, Sat 14 Mar 2009. You are welcome to attend all, just one or even two sessions.

WHO Anyone, but mostly this is aimed at those who have kayak skills and would like to gain the canoe skills so they can gain the new UKCC 2 star.
